Missing access control on Snowman.mintSnowman allows anyone to mint unlimited free Snowman NFTs

Root + Impact

Description

  • Normal behavior: NFTs are meant to be minted only through SnowmanAirdrop.claimSnowman, which requires a Snow balance, a valid EIP-712 signature, a valid Merkle proof, and burns Snow before minting.

  • mintSnowman itself has no access control, so any address mints any amount to any address directly, bypassing all of that.

Ownable is inherited but onlyOwner is applied to nothing in the contract, and script/DeploySnowmanAirdrop.s.sol never transfers Snowman's ownership to SnowmanAirdrop either — there is no restriction from any angle.

Risk

Likelihood:

  • Any EOA calls mintSnowman directly in one transaction — no capital, no timing, no dependency on any other actor.

  • Reachable on the exact production deploy path, not a hypothetical misconfiguration.

Impact:

  • Snowman NFTs are the protocol's entire reward asset; unbounded free minting makes the supply meaningless and dilutes every legitimate holder.

  • Every guarantee SnowmanAirdrop enforces (proof-gated, signature-gated, Snow-priced minting) is bypassed in one call.
